Enclave de calle – Burgos, 2008…

Merry-go-round fun....

What do jugglers, story tellers, merry-go-rounds, and stilt-walkers all have in common? They were all part of a festival held this weekend in Burgos called Enclave de Calle. In a nutshell, this two-day festival is comprised of a bunch of circus/street performers wandering around the city and practicing their craft. As you can see from the photo above, there was a also merry-go-round at the festival and the Spanish children really seemed to enjoy it. This merry-go-round was actually made in France if I’m not mistaken, so the artwork and carvings on it were very detailed and interesting.  Continue reading this post…

My first week in Spain is coming to an end…

Well, I just wanted to write a small post here to say first of all that I’m sorry I haven’t posted sooner (I’ve been really busy since I just arrived to Spain) and to say that my first week back in Spain, while tiring, was good.

I got here last Monday and moved into my apartment shortly after arriving. Between meeting my flat mates, getting to know the city, going to the school to meet my fellow teachers, opening a bank account, and getting the paperwork around for my residency card, I’ve been really busy!  Continue reading this post…

Me duele la espalda: Packing to go to Spain can be painful!

I have a lot of luggage.

Well, there they are: my two large suitcases, my carry-on, and my two boxes of crap to send to Spain. Just looking at this stuff makes my back start to hurt. I can only imagine what it will be like when I actually get to Spain and have to tote my pile of stuff from the Madrid Airport the whole way to Burgos all by myself.  Continue reading this post…

The countdown to Spain begins – and with it comes a hint of uncertainty…

The countdown has finally begun. After a year of planning, filling out applications, and going through numerous levels of bureaucratic red tape, I’m finally about to set out once again for Spain. In fact, in slightly under two weeks’ time I’ll be teaching English under the scholarship and “living it up” in Burgos with my new Spanish flat mates.

As I start to dust off my suitcases and make the lists of things that I need to bring with me, the thought that I’m actually going to be living in Spain for a pretty substantial amount of time is starting to become real to me.  Continue reading this post…
